A new report has revealed the top trending dog breeds in Salt Lake City — but the Shiba Inu or Kishu Inu dog breeds are not among them.
The company Rover recently released a new report that looks at top dog breeds across the country. In a separate email to the Deseret News, the company shared the top five trending dog breeds in Salt Lake City. Those dog breeds include:
- Border Collie
- Labradoodle
- German Shorthaired pointer
- Australian Cattle Dog
- Great Dane
Across the country, the Goldendoodle breed saw the biggest jump, climbing from No. 9 in 2020 to No. 5 in 2021.
Rover surveyed more than 1,000 dog owners about their pets. They found that 67% of dog owners brought a new dog into their home during the pandemic.
And more than half of dog owners will join a club or attend a meetup related to dog breeds.
“If that wasn’t enough, nearly two-thirds of dog parents share their dog love by sporting dog-centric apparel or decor related to their dog’s breed,” Rover said in an email to the Deseret News.
Shiba Inu dog surge
Throughout the country, the Shib coin and Dogecoin surges have actually made an impact on the actual Shiba Inu dog breed, as I wrote for the Deseret News. Fans of the Shiba Inu cryptocurrency have decided to buy Shiba Inu dogs because they are such big fans.
But some owners of Shiba Inu dogs have found that the breed can have a “difficult temperament,” according to Fortune. And there’s been a lot of overbreeding because there’s such high demand for puppies. So some owners are leaving their dogs at shelters. And there’s been so much overbreeding that some of the dogs are getting sent to shelters, too.
- “This year in particular has been like no other, and we are just barely keeping our head above water here,” Mary Bondoux, a volunteer with the Colorado Shiba Inu Rescue agency, told Fortune. “I really wish cryptocurrency would find another mascot.”
