Elon Musk is the person who has lost the most wealth this year, according to data from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Since January, the tech mogul has become $140 billion poorer and is now in second place on the list of the world’s richest people.

In late 2021 Elon Musk’s net worth almost reached $300 billion. However, he has lost the majority of his fortune due to a rapid decline in the shares of Tesla. The stock’s dismal performance can be attributed to concerns related to Musk’s commitment to running Tesla (following his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter) as well as worries about an upcoming recession in 2023 and high interest rates that are making growth stocks like Tesla far less appealing.

Bernard Arnault, co-founder and CEO of LVMH, is now $20 billion richer than Musk, which makes him the wealthiest person alive. 

Musk has suffered financial losses that are almost twice that of second-place finisher and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos who lost $86 billion. 

Cryptocurrency mogul Changpeng Zhao comes in third place with an astonishing $84 billion loss. According to Bloomberg, CZ’s estimated wealth stands at around $11.7 billion.

CZ is reportedly under investigation by European and American authorities who are accusing his company of facilitating money laundering. As reported by U.Today, several federal prosecutors are rumored to be ready to bring criminal charges against the cryptocurrency mogul, but no final decision has been made for now.

Why It Matters: Markus’ post came after Musk declared himself a Republican voter on Twitter after calling the Democrats a party of “division and hate.”

Bezos also interacted with a Twitter user who suggested that the Amazon founder invite Markus and him on to his yacht along with Lauren Sanchez. Sanchez is said to be Bezos’ girlfriend. 

Bezos began following Markus on Twitter earlier in the month. He only follows 83 people on the social media platform and has 4.4 million followers. 

Markus, who calls himself a “comedian” on Twitter has a following of 1.5 million. He follows 420 people — a number often referenced in connection with cannabis culture.

Price Action: On Wednesday, Amazon shares closed 7.2% lower at $2,142.25 in the regular session and dropped another 1.5% lower to $2,111 in the after-hours trading. At press time, DOGE traded 0.1% lower at $0.08, according to data from Benzinga Pro.

A development that was reported over the weekend sent the Dogecoin DOGE/USD community into a tizzy.

What Happened: Amazon, Inc. AMZN founder Jeff Bezos has begun to follow Doge co-founder Billy Markus, who goes by the name Shibetoshi Nakamoto on Twitter.

When this was brought to the attention of Markus, he tweeted a GIF with the text ‘Jeff Bezos, You did it.’

The Doge community was quick to jump into conclusions. One of them welcomed Amazon into the Doge family.

Why It’s Important: Amazon doesn’t accept Doge or, for that matter, any other crypto as a payment option on its ecommerce platform. A job posting by the ecommerce giant last year triggered speculation that it could begin accepting cryptos. The company, however, has not communicated anything in this regard thus far.

Andy Jazzy, who has taken over from Bezos as Amazon’s CEO, reportedly said in an interview to CNBC that he personally does not own any Bitcoin BTC/USD. He, however, suggested that Amazon could consider selling non-fungible tokens in the future. “We’re not probably close to adding crypto as a payment mechanism in our retail business, but I do believe over time that you’ll see crypto become bigger,” the CEO added.

A petition urging Amazon and Bezos to accept Doge as a payment option on Change.com has garnered 240,725 signatures at press time. Doge was seen rising 3.57% to $0.1315 on Saturday, according to Benzinga Pro.

A day after Amazon.com, Inc AMZN Chair Jeff Bezos heaped praise on Dogecoin DOGE/USD co-creator Billy Markus, he has received another round of praise — this time from Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk.

What Happened: Musk reacted to a tweet from Markus which touched on fitting in and tribalism. The Dogecoin co-creator said if the tribe that people join becomes bullies, they will as well but still maintain an air of moral superiority to outsiders.  Musk said these were “wise words.”

Why It Matters: On Wednesday, reacting to a tweet on party affiliations, Bezos heaped praise on Markus. The meme coin creator had tweeted about the bad behavior shown by both Republicans and Democrats towards moderates. 

Bezos had said, “Seen you refer to yourself as a sh*tposter but maybe you’re mostly just a wiseposter.”

Markus replied to Bezos, “I am a dopamine addict tweeting whatever random thought comes to the top of my head all day and getting overly rewarded for it in brain chemicals.”

The Tesla CEO’s latest response to Markus echoes what Bezos said about the wisdom of the Dogecoin co-creator.

While Bezos has started following Markus recently, Musk is seen often in the latter’s Twitter threads.

Price Action: At press time, over 24-hours, DOGE traded 1.3% lower at $0.09. On Thursday, Tesla closed largely unchanged at $709.42 in the regular session, according to Benzinga Pro data.

Multiple tweets today have been discussing that the founder of Amazon, its former CEO billionaire Jeff Bezos has started following DOGE co-founder Billy Markus on Twitter.

Amazon does not accept cryptocurrencies, although over the past few years, rumors claimed that for a while. In April, the present Amazon CEO Andy Jassy told CNBC that the company may potentially begin selling NFTs and that cryptocurrencies are in for a big future.

Last year, in July, Bezos’s space company Blue Origin sent the billionaire to space, shortly after Virgin Galactic founder Richard Branson went to space in his ship, which makes Bezos a rival of Elon Musk and his SpaceX, though the latter has not flown to space yet.

Musk is a big Dogecoin fan and after his recent deal to buy Twitter (which has not been closed yet), many in the DOGE army believe the meme coin will be one way or another used in the social media giant.

Some DOGE fans also believe that Bezos following Billy Markus “means a lot for DOGE” and probably indicates that the Amazon founder is warming up to Dogecoin.

The creator of the petition has tagged multiple companies and public figures on it including Bezos, Amazon, Twitter, Jack Dorsey, Mark Zuckerberg, and Facebook. The petition creator strangely posted his SHIB wallet in one of the updates, which led to speculation that he might just be looking for monetary gain out of this petition movement.
