The Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation (GRHF), an Alberta-based healthcare foundation, has started accepting donations in dozens of cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin ($BTC), Ethereum ($ETH), and even meme-inspired cryptocurrency Shiba Inu ($SHIB).
The move, according to local news outlet Global News, came through a partnership with charitable cryptocurrency organization The Giving Block, which allows the GRHF to receive cryptocurrency donations from donors.
The funds, once sent to GRHF, are converted to fiat currency that It is accustomed to use. In a release, the healthcare foundation noted that cryptocurrency donations allow it to access a new group of donors in Alberta. Mark Korthuis, president and CEO of the organization, said:
By accepting cryptocurrency donations, we’re going to open new pathways to fund innovative health technologies that will make a real difference for patients recovering from injury or living with chronic conditions.
The GRHF is reportedly still dealing with the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on its revenue streams, and sees cryptocurrency donations as a potential new income stream. The Giving Block, it’s worth noting, is a regulated charity with a regulated trust.
As CryptoGlobe reported Quincy University, a private Franciscan university based in Illinois, has announced that it has started accepting donations in cryptocurrencies, including the meme-inspired tokens Dogecoin ($DOGE) and its rival Shiba Inu ($SHIB).
In an announcement, the university noted that as a 501(c)(3) charity it will receive the full value of contributions and that these cryptocurrency donations are tax-deductible. Tax-deductible donations can’t, however, be anonymous as donors will “need to provide their name, address and email for the gift to be tax-deductible.”
Notably, cryptocurrency donations with Fidelity charitable, the largest grant-maker in the United States, rose over 1,000% last year. The organization received $331 million in cryptoassets through donor-advised funds, up from $28 million it received in 2020.
The early DOGE community was well-known for taking on philanthropic projects. It made headlines in 2014 after raising more than $25,000 worth of DOGE to let the Jamaican bobsleigh team attend the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation has started accepting donations in various cryptocurrencies
The Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation, which is located in Alberta, Canada, now accepts donations in a slew of cryptocurrencies, including meme coin Shiba Inu, according to a local media report.
The addition of such an option was possible because of its partnership with philanthropic startup The Giving Block.
This is the very first healthcare foundation in the western Alberta province to enable support for cryptocurrency payments.
GRHF CEO Mark Korthuis says that the organization is focused on technology and research, which is why cryptocurrencies seem like “a logical step”:
The Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation is focused on research, innovation and technology. Capitalizing on the benefits of digital currencies felt like a logical next step for us.
He predicts that cryptocurrencies will end up playing “a more significant role” in the world.
Those who are willing to make a contribution to the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation have to create a new account on the Giving Block website and select a certain cryptocurrency from a drop-down menu.
More and more organizations are willing to accept cryptocurrencies amid their growing adoption. However, the environmental impact of digital assets remains a persistent issue.
As reported by U.Today, the Mozilla Foundation dropped cryptocurrency donations due to CO2 emissions associated with the largest cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.
British non-profit International Animal Rescue (IAR) also ditched crypto donations due to climate concerns.
Everyone knows the Shiba Inu (CRYPTO:SHIB) story: In a wild frenzy of speculative buying, the cryptocurrency exploded in value in late October of 2021, registering mind-boggling gains. Of course, the token’s value has since crashed from its heights, leaving many investors (including yours truly) with little to show for their zeal.
Investors that are tired of losing money on cryptocurrencies like Shiba Inu, don’t have to look further than the healthcare sector to find a wealth of better investments. Compared to Shiba Inu, the two companies I’ll discuss today have a clear path toward further growth by simply continuing to execute on their business model. They also have an abundance of financial and competitive factors keeping their prices well-grounded in the present, which can’t be said of the joke-fueled coin, so let’s dive in and take a look.

For anyone who has had braces and wished they didn’t, Align Technology (NASDAQ:ALGN) could have been a better solution.
The company profitably sells the Invisalign brand of teeth straighteners as well as dental imaging systems that orthodontists can use to perform restorative dentistry. It’s a better investment than Shiba Inu because its business has been, is, and will continue to be booming.
In 2021, it brought in net revenue of $4 billion, which is just shy of 60% growth compared to 2020. Sales of its imaging systems led the pack, with strong demand driving a 90.4% increase year over year. That’s key, as each imaging system sold implies additional recurring revenue over time in maintenance contracts and software subscriptions.
To keep up these results moving forward, all Align needs to do is to keep penetrating its international markets. It has a 10% share of the global market for teeth straighteners, 54% of which is concentrated in the Americas. The Asia-Pacific region will be the center of future growth, and the company has already seen a 1,200% increase in the number of website visitors from major markets like India.
With consumer interest like that, it won’t take much else for the stock to outperform Shiba Inu this year.
Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ:ISRG) makes robotic surgical technology, including the legendary Da Vinci surgical suite. Like Align Technology, Intuitive is a canonical growth stock that’s profitable, is expanding consistently, and has a strong recurring base of revenue.
For every Da Vinci suite sold, the company can expect a drumbeat of income from sales of software packages, maintenance contracts, replacement tool heads, and other consumable necessities. In the fourth quarter, sales of these accessories brought in $843 million, and sales of surgical units were worth $470 million. As a result, total revenue grew by 17% in Q4, bringing Intuitive to a grand total of $5.7 billion in trailing revenue.
More procedures are being performed using Da Vinci units every year, which means that demand for consumables will be rising. Plus, there’s a low risk of losing customers to the competition. When Intuitive sells a Da Vinci system to a hospital, the surgeons using the system need to be trained, thereby imparting a sunk cost which makes it harder to justify switching to another solution.
Notably, there’s nothing comparable that would lock a user into the Shiba Inu ecosystem to preserve the coin’s long-term value.
In the future, Intuitive plans to keep producing new robotic tools and platforms to sell to new and existing customers. It’ll also work on its software platforms, which are instrumental in helping surgeons learn how to maximize their performance and reduce errors.
Finally, the last reason why Intuitive Surgical is a better option than Shiba Inu is that it’s an investment in progress. As cool as a digital currency based on a joke might be, it isn’t going to make products that help doctors to save people’s lives.

]]>As the first virtual world crypto event, the Cardano Summit, which finished on Sunday, promised much.
The keynote sessions are available for viewing now, with the rest of the content to be uploaded on the IOHK YouTube channel shortly.
Feedback indicated it was a well-organized event, and more importantly, it showcased key innovations and partnerships coming soon to the Cardano chain. Including the most eccentric reveal of all, an AI healthcare robot called Grace.
However, anyone who’s played Detroit: Become Human, or watched the Terminator films, would be forgiven for feeling uneasy about the idea of AI androids. Then again, is this distrust based on warrantless conjecture?
The Cardano Foundation revealed several strategic partnerships to drive adoption and make full use of the chain’s smart contract capabilities. The Foundation’s CEO, Frederik Gregaard, said:
“Our new ecosystem partners cover a range of challenges and opportunities at the forefront of global society today, including climate change, NFTs, decentralized finance (DeFi), and digital identity, and they will play a pivotal role in helping us realize our vision.”
With that, in conjunction with Veritree, the Cardano chain will be used to secure tree planting records with a view to reforestation. Esports fans were pleased to hear about teaming up with Rival to develop an NFT platform. While collaborating with financial services firm UBX will “increase on-chain DeFi activity.”
The Summit also revealed a tie-in with Chainlink for “tamper-proof” smart contract oracle services.
But most intriguing of all was the unveiling of Grace, which will use Cardano as an information network to process cognitive functions.
Grace is an AI robot built by Hanson Robotics and SingularityNET. She is designed with healthcare in mind and can speak English and Korean.
“She can also measure people’s responsiveness and mirror their emotions, helping her not just to come up with diagnoses but also to respond empathetically.”

IOHK claims that operating on the Cardano chain provides Grace with the highest level of functionality in terms of processing biodata quicker, more securely, and at a lower cost.
The CEO of SingularityNET, Ben Goertzel, said the importance of physical and mental health was often overlooked pre-pandemic. But this technology can be used to meet such needs as we advance.
“This is why solutions like Grace are so important, to combat loneliness and ease the burden on frontline workers. And with Cardano’s market-leading capabilities, she will be able to scale to meet this global challenge.”
However, Grace is not yet at the stage of replacing human healthcare workers. Goertzel said they will enhance her capabilities in the coming years to serve more critical functions in elderly healthcare and medical settings.
