On Saturday (June 11), American comedian and actor Martin Lawrence announced that he had sold the first NFT from his Cardano-powered “Martin: The Reunion” NFT collection for 3,000 ADA tokens.

As you may remember, on June 7, Lawrence announced — during a conversation on Twitter Spaces with Patrick Tobler, Founder and CEO of NFT-MAKER, and Charles Hoskinson, Co-Founder and CEO of IO Global (aka “IOG”, formerly known as “IOHK”), the company responsible for Cardano’s research and development — that he was going to release a Cardano-powered NFT collection consisting of 30 unique pieces.

So, all these projects materialised out of nowhere, and about 40% of the 1000+ projects on Cardano are NFT-related, and there’s over five million assets that have been issued on Cardano, and the transaction volume is remarkable…

“There’s about $270 million worth of sales that are occurring on a monthly basis when you look at this in the last three months average. So, it’s an unexpected surprise, but in hindsight it makes perfect sense. When you look at the native asset standard, when you look at the eUTXO model in particular, it makes it really easy to do an airdrop, it makes it really easy and low cost to issue things and manage these things that that are coming through. So, in hindsight, it does kind of make sense.“

Then, on June 10, Lawrence announced that his “Martin: The Reunion” NFT collection had gone on sale on his website www.martincnft.com and that holders of any of these 30 NFTs would be invited to attend on June 15 the Hollywood premiere of “Martin: The Reunion”, which is set to air on Black Entertainment Television (BET) on January 16.

These 30 NFTs “have been designed by accomplished artists known from Disney to Warner Brothers and to acclaimed artists from the NFT space.”

Lawrence’s website explains that the exact time and location the premiere party in LA, where holders of the NFTs will be able to hang out with him, “will be revealed to the buyers via an Air Drop message to their wallet on Tuesday 14th.”

Influential American rapper and record producer DeAndre Cortez Way, aka “Soulja Boy“, also seems to be excited by Cardano-powered NFTs.

Last Friday (June 3), he turned his Twitter followers to ask what Cardano NFTs to buy by sending out the following tweet that the IOG CEO found interesting.

In April, an even more famous American rapper “Snoop Dogg“, alias “Cozomo de’ Medici”, and his son, “Champ Medici”, launched their collaboration with crypto project Clay Nation. The result was a Cardano-based NFT collection called “Clay Mates“. Clay Mates are “characters who are brought to life in stop motion animation and re-homed on the blockchain as CNFTs.”

The first NFT in the Clay Mates Series 1 collection was “Charlie Birdkinson”.

On May 31, Snoop’s son, Cordell Broadus, who is very much interested in crypto and the metaverse, tweeted that he believes in the Cardano community:

The American celebrity follows in the footsteps of iconic rapper Snoop Dogg, who also held a Twitter space with the Cardano founder in early April. Following that, Snoop Dogg, alias Cozomo Medici, and NFT investor Champ Medici launched their official collaboration with Cardano-based NFT project Clay Nation, delivering iconic clay animations, land pitches and unlockable music content to Cardano.

The Cardano blockchain recently celebrated the milestone of over five million NFTs having been minted on its network. The number of native assets issued on the Cardano blockchain is currently 5,126,018 according to the pool.pm data, with 54,897 distinct minting policies.

The increase in the number of minted non-fungible art and projects is connected to the growth of the Cardano network. According to IOHK, the number of projects building on Cardano has surpassed the 1,000 mark, while NFT projects were at 5,796, per the latest update.

ADA price action

ADA rose nearly 15% to reach intraday highs of $0.645 on June 6 as Cardano faced institutional inflows. Positive expectations regarding the Vasil Hard Fork also partly helped lift the sixth largest cryptocurrency by market valuation.

Preparations for the Vasil Hard Fork are in the final lap, according to IOHK’s most recent weekly development update, with the team’s focus now shifting to tracking weekly milestones that will drive the next steps. The plan this week, according to IOHK, is to launch a new Vasil developer testnet while working closely with an extended group of developers on final testing. 

ADA traded down 7.93% at $0.587 at press time as investors pulled profits.
