CHICAGO: After a campaign hitch, a pack of Oscar Mayer Hot Doge Wieners still managed to successfully sell on eBay for $15,001.
The money will be donated to Feeding America. The listing attracted a total of 76 bids. But it wasn’t that straightforward.
Oscar Mayer dreamed up the campaign after noticing Twitter users putting its hot dogs and Dogecoins together. The brand decided to join the cryptocurrency moment in culture with Hot Doge Wieners “to bring unexpected smiles and sharing our love of meat with fans,” said Megan Lang, Oscar Mayer’s associate marketing director.
On eBay, Oscar Mayer offered fans Hot Doge Wieners with a cash value of 10,000 Dogecoins ($2,000); bidding was open between August 4-7.
The campaign had a tiny hiccup, however. After posting the initial eBay listing on August 4, it “was removed due to circumstances beyond Oscar Mayer’s control,” said Lang. She did not provide further details.
Oscar Mayer communicated to fans and media that the listing was removed “beyond its control,” but less than 24 hours later, the Hot Doge Wieners pack was ready for fans to bid on once more.
Oscar Mayer pivoted by creating a revised listing and making it even more appealing for fans with more Dogecoin value. The brand Tweeted that the listing was back, and fans could bid on it once again, this time with even higher stakes. When it was relisted, Oscar Mayer doubled the Dogecoin value to 20,000 or approximately $4,000 and extended bidding until August 8.
“We quickly worked together with eBay to get the listing back up so the auction could continue and the Hot Doge Wieners pack could be bid on,” she said.

“We quickly confirmed with media that the listing was live and fortunately was already up to $3,000 an hour into the campaign beginning again,” said Lang.
The brand tweeted about the winning bid on Sunday.

Oscar Mayer announced the hot dog pack through organic media on Twitter and via earned media to Oscar Mayer and Dogecoin fans. ICF Next assisted with the Hot Doge Wieners pack through earned media support. The campaign generated attention from lifestyle and cryptocurrency media with the meat brand’s introduction into the Dogecoin world, said Lang.
Oscar Mayer’s main campaign message was “Keep it Oscar,” the brand’s rallying cry to take life a little less seriously and spark unexpected smiles, Lang explained.
“We’re looking forward to finding more ways to see the world, and help fans see the world, through our meat-colored glasses,” she added.
Oscar Mayer is doing all its DOGE fans a service by releasing a special Dogecoin hot dog crypto pack.
Getting the memo during the surge in DOGE hodlers from the beginning of the year, Oscar Mayer is combining its signature hot dogs with 10,000 dogecoins (approximately $2,000 USD). Available in a single pack that features the Shiba Inu mascot, the pack is currently up for auction on eBay with 72 bids, and has reached $3,050 USD.
Those interested in obtaining this rare pack of hot dogs have until Aug 7, 9:00 a.m. PST. All proceeds will go to Feeding America.

Kraft Heinz Co. (NASDAQ:KHC) subsidiary Oscar Mayer’s Dogecoin (CRYPTO: DOGE)-themed hot dogs has sold for $15,000 in an auction on eBay Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY).
What Happened: Oscar Mayer said on Twitter that a single pack of “Hot Doge Weiners” was sold for $15,001 and the auction has closed. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the most expensive hot dog was previously sold for $169 in 2014.

The winner of the auction will receive the “one-of-a-kind,” 10-pack of hot dogs featuring the Shiba Inu image and the cash equivalent of 20,000 dogecoins – worth about $4,800 at the time of writing. A total of 76 bids were received in the auction, which was announced by Oscar Mayer last week.

All proceeds from the sale will go to the hunger relief organization Feeding America as part of eBay’s Auctions for Charity.
Why It Matters: Oscar Mayer is the latest company to ride the dogecoin hype.
Consumer packaged goods company Conagra Brands Inc. (NYSE:CAG) and candy bar Snickers have used the joke cryptocurrency for marketing purposes earlier this year.

Dogecoin’s acceptance as a payment option by companies has also gained momentum this year.
It was reported in July that Burger King Brazil is now accepting the meme cryptocurrency as a payment method for the purchase of Dogpper, a dog snack it recently introduced. The “Burger King” brand is owned by Restaurant Brands International Inc. (NYSE:QSR).
Price Action: Kraft Heinz shares closed 0.7% higher in Friday’s trading at $37.20.
Dogecoin is down 4.8% during the last 24 hours, trading at $0.2411 at press time.

After a great number of well known product brands like Burger King, Axe, Snickers, Milky Way, and Slim Jim have been riding the dogecoin hype, the American meat and cold cut manufacturer Oscar Mayer has also jumped on the dogecoin bandwagon. Similar to Axe, Oscar Mayer has also created a dogecoin-centric product and is auctioning a “10-pack of weenies” that features the famous Shiba Inu.
A 10-Pack of Doge-Themed Weenies
Oscar Mayer is a well known hot dog and cold cuts as the Kraft Heinz-owned firm has been around for years. In fact, the Mayer brothers started crafting bratwurst, liverwurst, and weisswurst products back in 1883. In recent times the Chicago-based company’s official Twitter account has been tweeting about the notorious crypto-asset dogecoin (DOGE).
The company has joined a number of well known brands getting in on the dogecoin hype. Just recently Axe released a limited edition Dogecan “crypto scented” body spray and a few Burger King locations in Brazil came out with a dogecoin-themed dog biscuit for pets.
The hot dog company Oscar Mayer has also crafted a dogecoin-centric product and the firm is auctioning a 10-pack of hot dogs that feature the Shiba Inu image. Oscar Mayer says the package also comes with the cash equivalent for 20,000 DOGE as well and there’s only one for the taking.
The company’s Twitter account said that proceeds from the Ebay auction will be given to feedingamerica.org, a U.S. hunger-relief charity.
“We’re back and this time with [$] even more [$] much wow. This limited-edition pack of Hot Doge Wieners now comes with the cash value of 20,000 DOGECOINS. Only one pack exists though,” Oscar Mayer tweeted on Thursday. The tweet also leads to an Ebay auction URL which shows there’s two days left to bid on the 10-pack of Oscar Mayer wieners. At the time of writing, the highest bid for the package of hot dogs is $13,100. The Ebay description says:
Very meat. So wiener. Much taste. Keep It Oscar, on your trip to the moon and help a good cause at the same time with this one-of-a-kind 10-pack of weenies. The winner of this auction won’t just receive the only pack of Oscar Mayer Hot Doge Wieners in the world, but also enough cash to purchase 20,000 dogecoins. The Oscar Mayer Hot Doge Wiener package auction ends on August 8th, 2021 and the highest bidder will get the 10-pack and the “cash equivalent to purchase twenty-thousand (20,000) dogecoin.” According to the Ebay auction listing, the dogecoin (DOGE) cash equivalent will be “based on the value of twenty-thousand (20,000) dogecoin at auction close.”

Dogecoin has a way of attracting major brands to the project. First it was consumer products brand AXE, which created a limited supply of physical Dogecans. Nows Oscar Mayer, which is known for its hot dogs, among other food products, is jumping into the meme-coin fray.
The American brand has announced a “limited-edition pack of Hot Doge Wieners that comes with the cash value of 10,000 Dogecoins.” This converts to approximately USD 2K if the Doge price can make its way back up to USD 0.20. The supply is limited as the company only made one pack. In order to be eligible, participants must bid on the auction platform eBay, where the starting bid was USD 0.99.

Breaking the Internet
The response was so immense that while the Dogecoin community might not have broken the internet, they did break the eBay link. According to reports, the bidding has shot up to more than USD 3,400. There is still time for more people to join the auction for the Hot Doge Wieners, as the promotion won’t end until Aug. 7 — if they can get the eBay linking working again.
Doge investors were quick to welcome Oscar Mayer to the meme-coin family. The more that mainstream brands embrace cryptocurrencies such as Dogecoin, the greater the chance for wide-scale adoption.
The excitement has yet to spill over to the Dogecoin price, however. Doge is currently trading below the psychologically sensitive USD 0.20 level and is down 2% in the last 24-hour period.
Baby Doge Rally
While the Dogecoin price is lower in sympathy with the broader cryptocurrency markets, another dog-themed coin is bucking the trend. Baby Doge Coin is up by a double-digit percentage, giving investors something to celebrate. OKEx may have something to do with it. Decentralized trading chain OKExChain is welcoming Baby Doge. According to social media accounts, users are hoping it will potentially lead to an official listing on OKEx exchange.

Baby Doge is growing in popularity. According to the project’s Twitter account, there are now more than 530,000 Baby Doge Coin holders.
The Baby Doge team is planning a coin burn on Aug. 6, which has drummed up additional excitement among users. In a coin burn, tokens are removed from circulation, which underpins the scarcity of the cryptocurrency and has the potential to bolster the price.
