Reportedly, Utel enabled tuition payments with cryptocurrencies on July 14. Students are expected to use the platform provided by the University (called SIU) to initiate their payments.
Bitso is a platform that facilitates crypto payments and it currently supports 34 digital assets. Some leading cryptocurrencies supported by Bitso include Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Cardano (ADA), Ripple (XRP), Shiba Inu (SHIB), etc. To note, the popular meme token, SHIB, was listed on the platform in January 2022.
Students of the Utel university can now pay their tuition fees via Bitso using any of the supported digital currencies.
Meanwhile, Utel university is a worldwide digital institute that combines technology with education to provide innovative, affordable world-class learning experiences in a fully-online environment. Interestingly, Utel university is academically equivalent to those in the United States.

Movements like these are not new to the dogecoin community. The altcoin has lost over half its value from this all-time high since then. Musk was back showing support for his favorite meme coin with an unexpected revelation. The billionaire revealed to his followers that he was thinking of starting a brand new university. The Texas Institute of Technology & Science, Musk called it, would be a university that accepted tuition in Dogecoin.

The Dogecoin community took this in stride as jokes around Musk’s announcement began to circulate. Most of the jokes have been centered around the abbreviation of the proposed university name; TITS. Community members posted jokes about applying and others tweeted that they were now saving their Doge in order to pay for tuition at Musk’s university.

After Musk’s tweet went live, the digital asset saw an uptick in value in the hours following. Dogecoin saw $3 billion added to its market cap following the tweet, setting it up on a path to try to reclaim its spot from top rival Shiba Inu. However, the new sweetheart of the dog-themed tokens community maintained its hold above Dogecoin. DOGE’s rally towards $0.3 brought its market cap close to that of SHIB which had suffered through the weekend. But recovery in the meme coin in the early hours of Monday ensured that it maintained its position at 9th place.

Dogecoin had dropped back down from its run towards $0.3 after Musk’s tweet. But the meme coin has maintained momentum above $0.25, which has spelled positive sentiment in the community. With market trading opening up on Monday, most cryptocurrencies are back to trading in the green. If altcoins can hold on to this upward momentum, then Doge may see a further uptick in the price.

Elon Musk does it again. As he has done many times in the past, the Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO sent Doge (CRYPTO: DOGE) higher with a tweet.
Doge For Tuition Fee: Musk had earlier this week tweeted his intention to set up a university in Texas, going by the name the “Texas Institute of Technology & Science.” In a threaded reply to the main tweet, Musk suggested the tuition fee will be accepted in Dogecoin and went on to add that a discount is applicable for dog owners.

Doge Rises In Reaction: Doge, which rose to a high of $0.3388 on Wednesday, has pulled back since then and is seen consolidating its gains. The meme currency was trading under 26 cents just seconds before Musk’s tweet, which had a time stamp of 2:20 pm. Doge reacted instantly and spiked to $0.2813 around that time but then pulled back immediately after.

The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, which falls under the prestigious list of Ivy League institutions, has confirmed its plans to begin accepting tuition fees in cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin for its online course about blockchain and digital assets, which is scheduled to start in January 2022. Furthermore, Wharton revealed that these crypto payments will be accepted through Coinbase Global Inc.
Wharton ascertained the quality of its crypto and blockchain program, by appointing Kevin Werbach, with 3 years of teaching experience in the decentralized field, as the lead instructor of the course. Additionally, the school aims to expand beyond the basic principles and incorporate more practical topics in the course structure, including how to value digital assets, regulation, policy, along with analyzing historical case studies.
“It’s a program about blockchain and digital assets, we felt that we talk the talk and walk the walk,” Guido Molinari, managing partner a Prysm Group, which is working with Wharton to develop the program told Bloomberg. “Coinbase has 68 million verified users, any one of these users will benefit from this program”, he added.
