In October 2022, Benzinga conducted a survey to gauge the sentiment on whether Dogecoin would reach $0.10 by 2023 following news of Musk‘s deal to purchase Twitter. Over 67.6% of those surveyed indicated they believe it will reach 10 cents by 2023 and 32.4% do not believe it will reach 10 cents again by 2023. 

In a tweet on Nov. 30, Billy Markus, co-founder of Dogecoin, who goes by the pseudonym Shibetoshi Nakamoto, made a call for the Dogecoin community to use the meme coin for more than just pump and dumps. Musk responded, suggesting that Dogecoin should operate more like a currency.

Even billionaire Mark Cuban, the owner of Dallas Mavericks, expressed his support for Dogecoin on “The Ellen Show” — noting that inflation actually serves to increase its utility as a digital currency.

The Second Winner: No price for guessing, second on the list is Shiba Inu SHIB/USD. Shiba Inu maintained its position as one of the top three cryptocurrencies on Binance in 2022.

Despite the current bear market, Shytoshi Kusama, the pseudonymous lead developer of Shibarium, remains optimistic about the future of Shiba Inu. Kusama recently shared an update with the community, noting that Shiba Inu still holds its place as one of the top cryptocurrency assets. With a bit of luck and some careful analysis, Kusama is confident that Shiba Inu is well-positioned to move back up the rankings soon. 

Data from LunarCrush reveals the remarkable growth of the Shiba Inu community, with its social engagement increasing by a staggering 4.78%, at $15.28 million.

Last But Not Least: BabyDogeCoin BABYDOGE/USD is the third coin on our list. With a market cap of $160.81 million, it has seen a price decline of 30% since last year. On the other hand, social engagement for the coin has seen an incredible surge of 7800%, reaching 7.35 million social mentions in 2022. 

BabyDogeCoin has continued to outpace Shiba Inu in terms of the number of holders, with a growing and passionate community dedicated to its success. The number of Shiba Inu holders is rising, but not as quickly as BabyDoge. Shiba Inu has 23% fewer holders, 1.26 million in total, lagging BabyDoge by nearly 500,000.

It is no secret that the crypto market was taken aback after the 19 August sell-off. Market skeptics continue to warn about the dire conditions in the macro scenario.

Among the losers of the sell-off are the prized meme tokens: Shiba Inu and Dogecoin. Both the tokens were enjoying their respective bullish activity until the crash.

Interestingly, at press time, DOGE continued to tread above its competitor on the crypto ranking charts. According to CoinMarketCap, Dogecoin, at the time of writing, ranked at the tenth spot by market cap.

However, Shiba Inu lost its place in the rankings and fell further down in the pecking order. At press time, it occupied the fourteenth spot after dropping two places below over the weekend.

Battle of the memes

Interestingly enough, Dogecoin, at press time, was trading at $0.061 after taking a 3.54% hit over the past day and further going down 7.09% over the week.

On the other hand, Shiba Inu was not much better either as it traded at $0.00001193 after going down 3.25% in the past 24 hours of press time. The SHIB token also slid by more than 7% in the past week, according to CoinMarketCap.

With the falling prices, trader profitability has also gone under in light of Friday’s (19 August) events. As per Santiment, both DOGE and SHIB traders are holding losses but the latter is marginally performing better on the MVRV chart.

At this time of writing, the MVRV ratio (30d) for Shiba Inu stood at -11.81% while Doge’s MVRV value rested at -17.32%.

What else is happening?

Despite the falling price, public interest has increased sharply in Dogecoin in the past few days. According to LunarCrush, Dogecoin ranked third among coins by social engagement in the past week. In the same list, Shiba Inu was down at the seventh spot.

According to a Whale Stats update, Doge holdings among top 100 BSC whales has rapidly increased recently. At press time, these whales held over $5.58 million worth of DOGE. Additionally, DOGE was the most used smart contract among the top 4000 BSC whales in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Shiba community is excited for the launch of its upcoming Shiba Eternity game. William Volk, one of the project leads working on the Shiba Eternity game, has just confirmed that the game will be launched in September.

Such a development is bound to encourage some positive investor sentiment but for now the token continues to slide on the price charts.
