Founder Charles Hoskinson had announced the tour after the successful launch of smart contracts capability on the blockchain and last month, the tour had kicked off.
Hoskinson and the Cardano Foundation plan to meet and liaise with developers of Cardano-based projects and officials of various countries to discuss the acceleration of blockchain adoption on the continent.

Judging by Hoskinson’s Twitter feed, the tour has been going as planned as he has met with a number of project leads and officials in various countries so far. One thing that remains a mystery is the secret meetings. Cardano developer IOHK has met with Zanzibar Officials but these meetings have been kept private from the general public. Here’s what we know.
Finding ways to grow interconnectedness around the continent had been one of the goals of the Cardano Africa tour. The foundation had gone into this full-swing once Hoskinson had touched down in Zanzibar. Talks of technological advancement in the region have dominated this leg of the tour.

Charles Hoskinson himself had personally inspected solar battery modules and telecom station installations in the country. This was in an effort to bolster social advancement and help businesses succeed.
IOHK and Zanzibarian officials had discussed how to bring to fruition a more connected future for the citizens in a meeting hosted by World Mobile Team. The meeting which was held on November 8 saw both the Zanzibarian government and IOHK align values for the future, pointing out that empowerment efforts being carried out by officials to give fishermen their own boats was the kind of work the developer was interested in.
The Cardano Africa tour is only another in the series of steps that the developer has taken to help promote innovation on the continent. Crypto enthusiasts have always looked to Africa as being a hotbed for blockchain adoption and Cardano has made sure to help foster the growth in the region. Particularly the growth of Cardano-based projects.
This is why millions of dollars have been spent by the foundation to fund African projects. While there, Hoskinson had made strides for Cardano to lead blockchain development in African countries and one of the ways had been education.

Cardano Foundation provides financial and educational support when needed for startups in Africa. Furthermore, a deal had been struck with the Ethiopian government to launch digital IDs that would help track the academic performance of students in the region on the Cardano blockchain. The idea is that if students’ performances can be tracked, then the quality of education can be improved based on the needs of the students.
Hoskinson has lauded the potential which the African continent holds for blockchain development and plans to expand the operations of Cardano on the continent in the coming years.

Cardano developers IOHK, in conjunction with World Mobile, have released a video documenting progress on their plans to connect the Tanzanian archipelago of Zanzibar.
News of a partnership with the Tanzanian government first broke in late April during the Cardano Africa Special. Since then, as evidenced by the video, great strides have been made in building out the internet infrastructure and moving forward with Cardano’s role in providing digital identities.
The footage was shot during IOHK’s tour of Africa, which began in late October. It shows the progress of deployment and how locals are taking to the project.
While most people in the west think nothing of paying bills or arranging credit through the internet, the same cannot be said for the 2 billion unbanked people globally.
World Mobile says 66% of Sub-Saharan Africans live without a bank account due to factors that include fees, inconvenient branch locations, and the lack of trust in traditional financial services.
To bring about better financial inclusion for all, World Mobile hopes to change this, starting with building the first blockchain internet, which includes constructing a network of communication towers. Cardano’s role in this comes into play by solving the digital identity issue.
Atala Prism is a Cardano-based decentralized identity solution enabling users to communicate securely with entities to verify digital records without third-party intervention. This covers banking and finance and extends to include other uses such as medical records and voting systems.
Addressing a class of school children during the tour, IOHK CEO Charles Hoskinson said the world is changing, and the way things used to be done is now “up for grabs.” What’s more, he said this wouldn’t be at the behest of superpowers, but instead, by individuals regardless of where they live.
“The reality is is that everything is up for grabs now. The whole world is being rewritten, not by America, not by Europe, not by China, by everybody together it doesn’t matter where they come from…”
World Mobile commented that the Zanzibar tour was a fantastic experience from which they’ll take away feedback points to plug into their existing plans. Mickey Watkins, the company CEO, added that the tour also enabled them to build closer ties with IOHK and for them to experience the governmental goodwill firsthand.
“Over the next six to twelve months you’re going to see mass adoption of telecommunications, you’re going to see implementation of digital identities from IO, and you’re going to see a new world.”

Cardano has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Burundi to help bring about digital transformation in the country.
In a tweet, Charles Hoskinson, CEO, Cardano, confirmed this with a picture of a meeting with the President of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye.
The MoU comes just days after Cardano got into yet another partnership with Zanzibar where Charles met President Ali Mwinyi and discussed the Blue Economy and how both Cardano and World Mobile fit into the picture.

Following the MoU signing, Charles updated his profile with a picture of him and President Evariste of Burundi.
While an MoU is not really a binding contract, it usually indicates a willingness to work together down the road.
Cardano had similarly signed an MoU with the Ethiopian government back in 2018 before starting to work together in 2021 in digitizing the education system in the country.
Charles is currently on an African tour where he is visiting several countries in an effort to further boost Cardano’s efforts on the ground across the continent.
On the Cardano website, the company outlines its vision “for economic identity and empowerment, to sustainability and financial inclusion across the African continent.”
Clearly, Cardano has big plans for Africa and the Burundi MoU is a further demonstration of this resolve.
