Prominent Cardano ecosystem co-founder Charles Hoskinson has come under fire for rushing the release of node 1.35.3 (which is said to provide “full Vasil era capabilities”). Developer Adam Dean revealed that the Cardano Testnet is “catastrophically” broken due to a bug, to which Hoskinson responded that the code “has been thoroughly tested”.
Adam Dean tweeted a warning that the Cardano testnet, which has been running for two years, has become incompatible with the current version of the blockchain’s client software.
“It’s important to point out today that the Cardano Testnet is **catastrophically** broken due to a bug in Cardano Node v 1.35.2,” he said.
Following the discovery of the bug, Cardano released a new client software, Cardano Node 1.35.3, which is unable to sync with the original testnet and is now running on two new testnets with no block history.
Charles Hoskinson responded that the code had been thoroughly tested for months by everyone, including the network’s stake pool operators (SPOs). He also stated that the vulnerability in 1.35.2 was fixed in version 1.35.3, which was released earlier this week after the bug was discovered.
He also stated that the Cardano community may decide to delay the launch of the Vasil hard fork for a few months in order to test the code again, which has already been done “a dozen times”.
“Is that worth it to all the DApp developers who have been waiting for this update for almost a year now? You’re the SPOs, you ultimately decide. I’m seriously tired of taking the blame on both sides. Cardano is decentralized. The people running the network ultimately decide upgrades, not me.”
The Vasil hard fork was supposed to go up in late June. However, as the deadline approached, Input Output postponed the hard fork for “a few more weeks” to allow for more testing time.
