📝 Project Overview 📝
Theta token is a decentralized video delivery network.
They want to provide high quality video streams without the buffering issues often seen today.
In addition, they plan on utilizing bandwidth and storage from users to reduce the cost of video streaming while also improving the quality.
⚙️ Technology ⚙️
There are two key parts to the Theta Token network. These are the video delivery network and then the Theta Blockchain.
The Delivery network is essentially a P2P mesh network of users who will share their bandwidth with users nearby them that are trying to stream video.
The Theta blockchain is the consensus layer of the Theta network and will handle payments and rewards in the ecosystem. Consensus is acheived through a Proof-of-Stake mechanism.
To avoid centralisation, you have a small group of 20 validator nodes that will produce the blocks. Then below this you will have what has been termed the “pool of guardians”.
💰️ Token 💰
There are two tokens on the Theta blockchain. These are the Theta Token (THETA) and Theta Fuel (TFUEL).
THETA are the main token that will be staked on the network by the node operators. T-Fuel is used as a utility token in the network in order to pay for bandwidth from the node operators.
THETA tokens were initially issued as an ERC20 token on the back of a private sale ICO that took place at the end of 2017. They were able to raise about 20 milllion dollars
👨💻️ Team, Partners & Development 👨💻
The project is being led by Mitch Liu who is also the co-founder of SLIVER.tv. He is an MIT grad and he also holds an MBA from Stanford.
The rest of the team is comprised of have backgrounds in blockchain development, streaming, software engineering etc.
Advisors to the project include the likes of Steven Chen who is the co-founder of YouTube and Justin Kan who is the co-founder of Twitch.
📈 Trading & Wallets 📈
THETA is listed on a number of exchanges including the likes of Binance, Huobi, Upbit etc.
The bulk of the volume is trading on Binance. Here, there are healthy turnover levels on the books which means a decent dose of liquidity.
If you are going to be staking THETA then you will want to use the proprietary core wallet. There are also a host of third party wallets that you can use including hardware wallets.
